Stuff I'm giving up for Lent

This may be the most unexciting thing I ever post here, but I need to put it out there to remind myself.

  1. Chicken Wings
  2. Beer
  3. Candy
  4. Desserts/Bakery
  5. Chipotle (specifically, the carnitas burritos)

and the hard one

6.  Buying any new DVDs, CDs, or Books.

I lost 12 pounds during Lent last year, this should be fun an important step on my continued spiritual journey.

I know this is turning into YouTube week around here, but I’m busy. Is it August 21st yet?

(and if you want a PDF of the script, email me)

Brilliant song. Absolutely brilliant. And timely for me, I guess.

The God Save The Fan (Paperback Edition) Now Available

I have a few issues with this new publication:

There is blatant false advertising on the front cover of this book. Mr. Leitch is no longer blackballed by ESPN; see the Deadspin reference smack dab in the middle of the most recent Simmons chatstravaganza.
The softcover publication of this volume means that the hardcover is probably now readily available for about five bucks in remainder/bargain bins in fine bookshops around the country. There’s a recession on, you do the math.
27% new more material? With his new heavy load of print and freelance work, I sincerely hope Mr. Leitch hasn’t dipped into the stash of performance-enhancing supplements from Gawker Media, ca. 2006.
Leitch says there are no plans for a book tour. Once again, he avoids the coveted Cleveland market.

In all seriousness, congratulations Will, I hope it sells well. Any truth to the rumor that Drew was seen hiding copies behind his book?

This is a real book, and it comes out on April 15th. Yet another reason to mark tax day on my calendar.

James Harrison says that if he weren’t playing football, he’d be ‘Flipping burgers.’

-Al Michaels, from last night’s Super Bowl broadcast on NBC

Yep, that’s pretty much the Kent State educational experience in a nutshell.

If you don’t know the story by now, Harrison was an undrafted free agent who was cut several times before finally latching on for good with the Steelers.

If this doesn’t get you pumped up for the Super Bowl™ Big Game tomorrow, nothing will. If I had money If gambling were legal, I’d wager a prop bet on a Troy pick.

I find the differences in Fincher’s feature and non-feature work to be kind of ironic. He is such an awesome commercials director, with incredible imagery. For some reason, it really hasn’t translated to his work on the big screen (Seven and Fight Club aside), which I think allows him to obsess too much. (Seriously, how many films about serial killing is he going to make? If he does Torso, that’ll be #3.)
